Your liberal media covers the stimulus bill

Listen to conservatives long enough, and you’ll notice a recurring theme. They like to play the victim of media bias.
I’ve yet to see any convincing evidence that their claims are true. However, I have seen lots of evidence that liberals and Democrats are not treated well by “their” media.
ThinkProgress compiled data on the cable TV [...]

60 Minutes reports on the Israeli settlements

If you’re at all interested in the conflict between the Israelis and Palestinians, I urge you to watch this excellent 60 Minutes report on the Israeli settlements on Palestinian land. Along with walls and roadblocks, the settlements are making life for the Palestinians unbearable and decreasing the likelihood of a two state solution.

Sheeeeeeeeep!

This photo by Cary Wolinsky scares the crap out of me.
My friend Karen who sent me the photo, says it originally appeared in a National Geographic, and apparently it took a while to find a sheep that wouldn’t keep falling over from the weight imbalance.

Fighting Israels battles for them

Here’s some disturbing news from a few weeks back that I wasn’t aware of:
A memorandum of understanding signed Friday in Washington by Tzipi Livni, Israel’s foreign minister, and Condoleezza Rice, the U.S. secretary of state, enhances security cooperation.
It draws in NATO and regional allies into the effort, apparently through enhanced monitoring of regional shipping:

TV ads are good

I’m one of those folks who DVR’s/Tivo’s everything to avoid commercials. I’ll even record live sports programming, and start watching it 30-45 minutes after it started. That way after skipping all the commercials I catch the end of the game as it’s happening live.
My younger brother thinks that’s crazy, at least in the case of [...]

Mental health break: Kudos to Obama & shoe throwers

Obama has been doing some good stuff these last couple of days. He’s ordered Gitmo closed as well as the CIA’s semi-secret “black sites”. He’s overturned an executive order by Bush that would have prevented many of the Bush era documents from being released publicly, it also limits himself and future Presidents from putting those [...]

Republicans up to old tricks

The nomination of Eric Holder, President Obama’s pick for Attorney General, is stalling because of Senate Republicans.
Why the delays? This is the answer from the Huffington Post:
Senate Republicans hope to delay a vote on the confirmation of Eric Holder to become attorney general in order to pressure him to say whether he will prosecute intelligence [...]

Israel's motives in Gaza

As Israel pulls out of Gaza and the final shots in this battle between Israel and the Palestinians are being fired, many questions remained unanswered.
How many are dead in Gaza? How many of those dead are innocent civilians? Will Israel lift the blockade of Gaza? Will the rocket attacks stop for the foreseeable future?
But the biggest question facing Israel [...]

Obama's day

In honor of Obama’s inauguration today, I thought I’d repost the Chicago Sun-Times cover from Nov. 5th, the day after he won the election:

It’s still a little hard to believe he’s actually going to be the president. It’s been a long eight years and I have to admit I’ve grown accustomed to despising the president and [...]

Bush is almost gone!

I wonder if former presidents get added to the statistics on unemployment?
