Hillary’s boomerang syndrome

Today is the day. Pennsylvania is voting for the Democratic nominee and unless Obama wins, which is extremely unlikely, the race will go on. The attacks will continue. The media will continue to numb us with their inane coverage. And I will continue to make these wonderfully insightful posts about the whole thing. You’re welcome.
In the last few news cycles leading up to today’s primary Hillary Clinton has been sharpening her attacks. Unfortunately for her, most of them have boomeranged right back at her. Here are three cases for your consideration:
1) If you caught the awful ABC debate last week you may have noticed that Hillary Clinton tried to falsely tie Obama to Louis Farrakhan:
It is clear that, as leaders, we have a choice who we associate with and who we apparently give some kind of seal of approval to. And I think that it wasn’t only the specific remarks but some of the relationships with Reverend Farrakhan, with giving the church bulletin over to the leader of Hamas, to put a message in.
Now, enjoy this video of top Hillary cheerleader Ed Rendell (Gov. of Pennsylvania) heaping praise on the Nation of Islam while sharing a stage with Farrakhan:
2) Obama had some slightly kind words to say about McCain this weekend:
“You have a real choice in this election. You know, either Democrat would be better than John McCain, but, and all three of us would be better than George Bush,” Obama said. “What you have to ask yourself is who has the chance to actually really change things in a fundamental way? So that 10 years from now or 20 years from now you can look back say, ‘Boy, we really moved in a new direction and we’ve put the country on a better path.’”
Clinton responded with this lovely line, “We need a nominee who will take on John McCain, not cheer on John McCain, and I will be that nominee.”
Apparently she forgot that she said had said this just a few weeks ago:
“I think that since we now know Sen. McCain will be the nominee for the Republican Party, national security will be front and center in this election. We all know that. And I think it’s imperative that each of us be able to demonstrate we can cross the commander-in-chief threshold,” the New York senator told reporters crowded into an infant’s bedroom-sized hotel conference room in Washington.
“I believe that I’ve done that. Certainly, Sen. McCain has done that and you’ll have to ask Sen. Obama with respect to his candidacy,” she said.
3) Hillary is now running an ad featuring a short glimpse of Osama Bin Laden where she claims that she alone is prepared for the challenges facing our country:
Obama’s campaign responded to her Rovian fear ad with this clip of Bill Clinton from when he was campaigning with John Kerry:
If one candidate’s trying to scare you and the other one’s trying to get you to think; if one candidate’s appealing to your fears and the other one’s appealing to your hopes, you better vote for the person who wants you to think and hope.
I agree with the sentiment that Hillary has every right to run and that it should be left up to all of the voters to decide the Democratic candidate and not just those states with early primaries. That said, I wish Hillary would lose already just so we can all stop having to focus on this primary non-stop in the media.
