Mental health break: Bad comics

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

I really enjoyed reading all 200 of these Bad Comics at Nedroid.
Here are some of my favorites:

Don’t tell us we’re ignorant. Educate us.

While I was putting away groceries last night, I caught a glimpse of Hardball on MSNBC. Chris Matthews has been taking a break, so Mike Barnicle (great name) was guest-hosting.
Barnicle had an unremarkable panel of pundits at his disposal and the topic moved to a quote from Obama at a recent fund-raising event:
We are now [...]

What the tax cut regime has wrought

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

Next year the United States will run a budget deficit of $490 billion. That will bring total US debt to $10 trillion. (Thanks China!)
Then there’s this fun news (@ Ezra Klein):
In a new sign of increasing inequality in the U.S., the richest 1% of Americans in 2006 garnered the highest share of the nation’s adjusted [...]

McCain’s lovely new ad

Monday, July 28th, 2008

(Updated Below)
Check out McCain’s new ad where he blasts Obama for not visiting wounded troops during his overseas trip:

This ad is not only riddled with shameless falsehoods, it’s a sign that McCain is trying to shift the debate away from the issues.
I’m not sure why, but this ad just makes me mad. After eight years [...]

TGIF!?
8:25am
Obama’s speech in front of 200k in Germany yesterday:

It was a pretty good speech. Full of his usual high minded rhetoric about coming together for change. It also had a call to action for our NATO allies: Send more troops to Afghanistan!

You can read the text of Obama’s speech here.
If you want to check out [...]

McCain crosses the line

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

“This is a clear choice that the American people have. I had the courage and the judgment to say I would rather lose a political campaign than lose a war. It seems to me that Obama would rather lose a war in order to win a political campaign.” - John McCain
This quote from McCain is [...]

Obama ends the Iraq War

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

I’m going to be bold here and say we’re going to look back at this week as a milestone. It’ll be the week - drumroll please - Obama ended the U.S. occupation of Iraq.
Pretty amazing for someone who isn’t even the president yet. But how did Obama do it? Let me explain…
This weekend Iraqi Prime [...]

Why sports video games suck

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

<Nerd Rant>
I love sports video games. I’ve got no trouble admitting it.
I don’t doubt that I’ve spent more time playing sports video games than watching the Real Deal on TV (Although as I’m getting older and lazier, that’s probably going change). After more than eight years of playing the NBA 2K series, I often [...]

Maybe they’re jealous?

Monday, July 21st, 2008

I’ve discovered the reason so many Americans (particularly of the conservative/Republican persuasion) are opposed to gay-marriage.
It’s simple. Their own marriages were unfulfilling and dreadful so they feared being outplayed at their once exclusive game.
Here’s Andrew Sullivan writing about his own same-sex marriage:
I think Megan is almost certainly right about men getting more out of marriage [...]

You’re probably sick of the hype…

… but here’s more about Batman.
One of the facets of the Batman mythos (isn’t that word so pretentious sounding?) that appeals most to me is his normalness. Bruce Wayne doesn’t have superpowers. He just has money and physical prowess. A lot of what he does borders on possible.
Sure that sounds crazy, but here is [...]
