A different kind of affirmative action

I’m a little late on this one, but watching MSNBC’s coverage of the Democratic National Convention (which is mind numbing; McCain should watch it if he really has sleeping trouble) reminded me that NBC hired Luke Russert as a correspondent in the wake of his father’s death.
Giving him a job is sorta sweet and everything. And I’m sure Luke is a nice guy, and he’s probably more than qualified, but is it really appropriate to give Luke a highly visible job (he is on TV) just because his dad died? Let’s be honest. It’s not like he woulda got that job on July 31st if his dad were still alive.
Anyways, it’s all kinda creepy to me.
Luke Russert seems like a nice kid and is probably better trained than most kids his age to do this kind of job. He’s done TV work before as an intern on PTI and filling in as “Stat Boy” in Tony Reali’s absence.
The sad thing is, NBC probably didn’t hire him for his qualifications but rather for ratings.
Yeah Ted.
You said it better than me.
I hate cable news.
Great comment Ian!
Great comment Chris!
GREAT COMMENT TED!
this must stop now.
Sorry if it wasn’t more detailed. Its all I have to say about cable news now. I hate it. It no longer comes close to serving its purpose.
