Dear Congressional Democrats,
I know you’re planning to bailout the Detroit automakers.
Don’t do it.
The Big Three deserve to fail.

The possibility of a $700 billion bailout for Wall Street is looming large over the national conversation, so I’ll forgive you for not noticing these fun nuggets portending America’s doom:
Congress is working on passing a $25 billion bailout for Detroit automakers
And why $25 billion for companies that have long ago ceased to be worthy of [...]

Yesterday I said (in the site subhead) that I didn’t have anything to say about the anniversary of 9/11. That’s still mostly true, but I wanted to share two posts from elsewhere that I think are excellent food for thought.
First up, and most provocatively, is Paul Campos from Laywers, Guns and Money, who posits that [...]

McCain has a new advertisement, titled “Tiny,” that attempts to set a new low in the political game of taking your opponent out of context. Here’s the ad:
For those without sound, the narrator in McCain’s ad states the following: “Obama says Iran is a ‘tiny’ country. ‘Doesn’t pose a serious threat.’ Terrorism? Destroying Israel? Those [...]

In an update to my post yesterday, I mentioned this quote from the Prime Minister of Iraq, Nuri al-Maliki:
There is an agreement actually reached, reached between the two parties on a fixed date which is the end of 2011 to end any foreign presence on Iraqi soil.
So, again, Maliki has basically endorsed Barack Obama’s timetable [...]

It’s easy and perversely comforting to think of the world as bipolar. Good vs. Evil. Communist vs. Capitalist. Democratic vs. Autocratic. USA vs. Russia. But the world isn’t so simple (despite what John McCain may think).
Despite whatever comfort simplified labels give us, Russia is not an evil imperial power hellbent on invading all of Europe. [...]

Remember back in 2006 when Israel invaded Lebanon because of a border skirmish? Back then, the international community condemned Israel for their disproportionate military response.
This was what George Bush had to say back then:
The recent crisis in the region was triggered by the kidnapping of Israeli soldiers by the terrorist group Hezbollah and the launch [...]

I’m going to be bold here and say we’re going to look back at this week as a milestone. It’ll be the week - drumroll please - Obama ended the U.S. occupation of Iraq.
Pretty amazing for someone who isn’t even the president yet. But how did Obama do it? Let me explain…
This weekend Iraqi Prime [...]

(Updated Below)
I thought it’d be nice to start off today with a great quote:
“Maybe a race of alien lizards will land in Mosul and commence their program of world conquest, in which case it would be odd to stick with the 16 month withdrawal timeline…” - Matthew Yglesias

Update
Obama has been busy this week reinforcing his [...]
